During the glory years of Motown’s greatest popular success, Stevenson, was a powerful presence around the halls of the legendary Detroit-based record label, where only Berry Gordy himself wielded more power over Motown's creative output. Berry played a hunch and hired the streetwise Stevenson as his first A&R (Artist and Repertoire) director, even before the job had been properly defined. From that point on, Mickey's familiar imprimatur appeared on a plethora of Motown smashes as writer, producer, or both. Once officially installed, Mickey quickly made himself invaluable. His search for talent was relentless. After building the house band, “The Funk Brothers,” finding gifted, talented artists, writers, and producers, was the order of the day; making Stevenson’s auditions, endless. Because of his talented discoveries, he maintained no less than ten a percent (10%) and as high as a thirteen percent (13%) on the national charts for years. Mickey's responsibilities as A&R man included such artist as Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight, The Four Tops, and Martha Reeves and the Vandellas to name a few. As the A & R man, Stevenson had to provide the material for collaboration with the label's creative geniuses, and that also involved solving a myriad of problems so Berry - an expert at delegating authority - didn't have to. The entire creative division of Motown was his responsibility until he resigned to form his own operation, The Stevenson International Entertainment Group. Stevenson today remains a major player in the entertainment industry. As a writer and producer of musical shows, such as “Swann,” “T.K.O.,” “Raisin’ Hell,” and “Sing It From The Heart,” Stevenson holds the unique honor of being nominated for the prestigious Image Award 14 times and is a six-time . His honors included “Best Original Musical” and his theatrical account of the sensational musical, “Sing It From The Heart,” intimately portraying the lives of legendary singers, Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Josephine Baker, Dorothy Dandridge, Eartha Kitt, and Mahalia Jackson. Recognizing that new talent is constantly Stevenson today continues to assist- up -and -coming artists to create, develop, and prosper in the industry. He landed a multi-million dollar deal for singer, songwriter, producer, Novel, who has produced such artist as, Joss Stone, India Arie and, Monica, Novel had the opportunity to work with superstars B’eyonce and Alicia Keys, while awaiting the release of his own album. Stevenson is presently working with a new generation of energetic producers and song writers like new found talent Justin Holley, who have successfully mastered today’s sound of new electronic beats while combining them with a taste of old school flavor.
SMOKEY ROBINSON has written and produced such hits songs as: “MY GIRL”, “CRUISIN”, “TRACKS OF MY TEARS”, “OOH BABY, BABY” “TEARS OF A CLOWN”, Just to name a few. Just Released Smokey’s new spiritual album “Food for the Spirit”. His numerous appearances on TBN has been an inspiration to the world of entertainment. If you're looking for the all-time number-one purveyor of mainstream romantic soul, Smokey Robinson may well be the man, in the face of some towering competition. With the Miracles in the 1960s, he paced dozens of tuneful Motown hits with his beautiful high tenor. As a solo performer from the 1970s onward, he was one of the staples of urban contemporary music. But his singing gifts, as notable as they are, comprise only one of his hats: he's also one of pop's best and most prolific songwriters. As a songwriter and producer, he was the most important musical component to Motown's early success, not only on the hits by the Miracles, but for numerous other acts as well (especially Mary Wells and the Temptations). Surveying Robinson's achievements during the 1960s, one wonders if the man ever slept. While the Miracles were never Motown's biggest act at any given time, they were one of its very most consistent, entering the Top 40 25 times over the course of the decade. "I Second That Emotion," "The Love I Saw in You Was Just a Mirage," "The Tracks of My Tears," "Ooh Baby Baby," and "Baby, Baby Don't Cry" were some of their biggest singles, and usually represented Motown at its most sophisticated and urbane. Robinson also was extremely active at Motown as a songwriter and producer for other acts. The number one singles "My Guy" (Mary Wells) and "My Girl" (Temptations) were each Robinson songs and productions (the latter with fellow Miracle Ronnie White), and Robinson also did some excellent work with the Marvelettes and Marvin Gaye. Smokey’s new album of Standards will be released under Universal in June, 2006 Smokey has and still is touring across the country constantly all year round producing and performing his concerts.
